Multinational Human Resource Policy and Internal Labour Markets in Danish Companies

Based on interviews, surveys and fieldwork, the article discusses the development of HR-policies and internal labour markets in some high-tech and knowledge intensive Danish multinational companies in Malaysia and Singapore. Both countries have put the knowledge society on their agenda and tried to build alliances with high-tech multinationals to realise a proactive strategy for human resource development. The article focuses on problems Danish multinationals face in transferring HR-policies to subsidiaries in other business and working cultures. The main questions are: Why do knowledge intensive companies give priority to HR-development, which are the barriers in transferring HR-policies, and, to what extent are the investigated Danish companies successful in implementing HR-policies in the two countries?
