The article introduces two psychoanalytic traditions – the english Tavistock and the German psychoanalytic social psychology. They represent advanced inquiries of modern work life and have infl uenced Danish research, work life and organizational consultancy. It is two substantial traditions comprising decades of theoretical and methodic work, comprehensive publications and organizational consultancy. How do the theoretical traditions understand the interplay between humans and work life and do they offer critical and transgressing concepts? Both theories wrestle with the complex interplay of the subject, work life and society conceptualised as inter-subjective and intra-subjective processes.
