Organisational anchorage of welfare innovation

A discussion on the basis of two cases from employment services

Catharina Juul Kristensen

This article analyses how innovation is handled and integrated in welfare organisations. The article has a double focus. As welfare innovation is a bourgeoning research field in Denmark the concept of welfare innovation is encircled and defined it the article’s first part. In the second part, a single but central aspect of welfare innovation is analysed; the organisational integration of innovation. The analysis is based upon qualitative case studies in two organisations within the field of activation, a public and a private welfare organisation. The article draws on theoretical work from a number of international – and Danish – researches, including work by Rosabeth Moss Kanter and J. Gregory Dees.
