Gender and work during the childhood and adolescence of gender research in Denmark
Karen Valeur Sjørup
This essay considers how the overall
trends in feminist theory and gender
political practice have affected research
on gender in employment in Denmark
through the last 30 years, from a predominantly
Marxist to a predominantly social
constructionist approach. The changes in
the research have both refl ected the tremendous
changes in women’s ties to the
labour market, and the political and mindset
changes that have occurred in society.
The research has developed from being a
part of the feminist political agenda into a
more secluded academic practice, a process
which has also matured gender research as
a fi eld of science.
