Gender in working life
A subjective or discoursive product?
The first issue in the article is to present a social constructionist perspective in Danish working life research and the gender segregated labour market by introducing a Foucauldian discourse analysis. In this specific field of research, the author tries to reconsider the concept of subjectivity in gender relations at work. The author wants to challenge the understanding of subjectivity as an indispensable key to understanding individual, gendered orientations in a working life context. To demonstrate these points, the article presents a Danish study of male and female socialpedagogues, where a discourse analysis produces new understandings of how and why men and women are submitted to very different conditions in carrying out their job.
