The interplay between participation, democracy and work environment
Postulated correlations between employee participation, democracy and work environment form a theory that has dominated research on working life in Scandinavia for the last 30 years. In Norway, the last example of a research program based on this theory is Enterprise Development 2000. This article discusses to what extent the postulates forming the theory are being verified by the results in the participating companies. It concludes that the results confirm a relationship between the degree of employee participation, the extent of democracy and the work environment, but the postulated correlations of the theory are not verified.
