Conceptualizing the work environment in workplace development
Does participative enterprise development work represent an opportunity for including activities that improve the work environment? Based on the experiences from the Norwegian Enterprise Development 2000 research program, this article discusses how process development methods should be complemented by emphasising social and political aspects as well. The article further examines the connections between work methods, the role of key actors and relations between the participants. A main conclusion is that work methods not alone contribute to link work environment- and enterprise development work. On the contrary, work methods should be looked upon as tools in the hands of certain key actors. The work methods thus primary get their meaning from the key actors’ perspective, and from how others participants interpret their potential contributions.
